Stomach Churned

Justin Graves took the lead in the first lap and held it for more than an hour to win the Stomach Churn cyclocross race on Saturday. Jeff Hales came in second followed by James Williams in third.

More than 50 people slogged through the mud in the one hour and 30-minute races held on a cow pasture in Arcata, Calif. “It was fun, now that it’s over,” said Pat Grace, who finished the half-hour race in about 45 minutes.

Race for the Ridge Trail Festival

Mark your calendars for Oct. 30 and 31 for the Race for the Ridge Trail Festival in the Arcata Community Forest.

There will be cross-country, short-track and Super D mountain bike races, a 5k running race and kids events. Put on your best Halloween costume!

The Ram Wins Redwood Acres

Here’s how it went down: Eight men set a blistering pace in the 50-minute crit in dizzying heat. The intensity took its toll, with riders imploding like John McCain’s presidential campaign.

The Ram crosses finish line.

But strongman Luke Ramseth showed who was boss. In the final lap, The Ram tipped the wheel of another rider, swerved onto the infield grass, nearly crashed but recovered, caught back to the field and won the sprint! Now, that was definitely worth the bag of chips!
